You can register your children from birth to age five for free in any of the 67 counties across the state to begin receiving a specially selected book each month. Inspired by her father’s inability to read, Dolly began this program in 1995 and it has grown to span five countries and has gifted over 270,748,000 books to more than 3 million children who are registered. “The seeds of these dreams are often found in books and the seeds you help plant in your community can grow across the world,” Dolly shares.
The Dollywood Foundation has partnered with the state of Alabama to make this happen: Governor Ivey’s 50 percent funding match officially launched in August of 2023, and since then the number of children registered has increased over 106 percent, bringing it to over 82,000 children statewide. Local program partners also make Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library possible by functioning as administrators in each county. “I’m thrilled that Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is now available to all children under five years old in Alabama. This program has enormous impacts on early literacy and school readiness, and now those benefits extend across the state,” Kaelyn Christian, State Director for the Imagination Library of Alabama, expresses.
